  • Do you prescribe benzodiazepines (ativan, klonopin, xanax, etc.)?
In short, no. I do not prescribe benzodiazepines for long term treatment. This is because long term benzodiazepine causing increased risk of dementia, addition, withdrawal, car crashes, and hip fractures. Overdose on these is also a big risk. Read this short article by the American Academy of Family Physicians of the risks of Benzodiazepine medications here: "Risks Associated with Long-Term Benzodiazepine Use" https://www.aafp.org/pubs/afp/issues/2013/0815/p224.html However, I frequently do help people decrease their benzodiazepine use slowly over time with the goal to ultimate stop taking those medications. This is done slowly over time with frequent follow up and monitoring.
